Lab Work That Reveals What Birmingham Deserves to Know
Elev8 Your Health is a certified functional health practice serving Birmingham and the surrounding communities of Jefferson County and Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. Mari Handley, Certified Functional Nutrition Practitioner, brings lab work consultations directly to clients in their homes, reviewing results, identifying patterns, and translating numbers into a clear picture of what is actually going on inside the body.
Functional lab work is not the same as a standard blood panel ordered at your annual physical. Conventional lab results are typically reviewed against a broad population reference range, a range wide enough that most people fall within it even when something is clearly off. Functional lab work uses tighter, optimal reference ranges built around what a healthy, well-functioning body actually looks like.
How Mari Reviews Your Lab Results.
Step 1, You Share Your Existing Lab Results
If you've had lab work in the last 3 to 6 months, bring it to your appointment or upload it to your portal. If you haven't, labs can be ordered through Mari's in-office physician based on your needs and goals.
Step 2, Mari Reads Your Numbers Through a Functional Lens
Sitting across from you at home, or at the office, Mari compares your results against tighter, optimal ranges instead of broad population averages, flagging patterns conventional review often misses.
Step 3, You Leave With a Plain-Language Plan
Mari explains what each marker means for your day-to-day energy, digestion, or mood, and outlines next steps you can actually act on.
Functional Interpretation Gives You Answers Conventional Ranges Miss.
Conventional lab review tells you whether a number falls inside a wide "normal" range. Functional interpretation tells you what that number means for how you actually feel.
Root Patterns, Not Just Red Flags
See connections between markers that a standard panel review treats as separate, isolated results.
A Plan Tied to Real Symptoms
Understand how your fatigue, digestion, or mood connects to what your labs are actually showing.
No More Being Told Everything Looks Fine
Get a second, tighter read on results that sat inside "normal" but never explained how you feel.
A Conversation, Not a Printout
Mari walks through your numbers with you in your own home, in plain language, until it makes sense.
Common Questions About Lab Work Interpretation.
Do I need to get my labs drawn somewhere before Mari can review them?
No. Labs can be drawn right in Mari's office. She works alongside Dr. Matt Davis, and having your labs done there means your results go straight to her, with a trusted physician overseeing the process. If you've had labs in the last few months, you're welcome to bring them, but in-office labs are the simplest and most reliable option.
Will Mari tell me my results are normal like my doctor already did?
Probably not in the same way. Mari compares your numbers against tighter, optimal ranges instead of broad population averages, so a result your doctor called normal may still reveal a pattern worth addressing. That's the whole point of functional interpretation. How long does a lab work consultation take?
Most in-home lab work consultations run about 60 to 90 minutes, giving Mari time to walk through each marker with you, answer questions, and outline a plain-language next step before she leaves. Can Mari review labs my doctor already said were fine?
Yes, that's actually one of the most common reasons clients book. Mari re-reads results already marked normal using functional reference ranges, often surfacing patterns tied to fatigue, digestion, or mood that a standard review didn't flag.
